YouTube, Vine and Instagram stars will compete in Season 28 of 'The Amazing Race'

Vine star Zach King and YouTuber Blair Fowler are among the social media influencers the 11 new teams of social media influencers who will compete in the next season of CBS' "The Amazing Race."

CBS tentpole The Amazing Race is putting social media stars front and center for Season 28.

The 10-time Emmy Award-winning reality TV competition, which launched in 2003, announced Wednesday that its upcoming season will feature all YouTube, Vine and Instagram stars. YouTubers Tyler Oakley, Burnie Burns and Blair Fowler, Viners Zach King and Cole LaBrant, and Instagram models Jessica Versteeg and Brittany Oldehoff will be among the 11 teams.

Even host Phil Keoghan is planning a bigger digital presence for next season. For the first time ever, Keoghan will stream live video on his Facebook page during the first leg of the Race on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Keoghan told Mashable that the social media stars will make the show "even more entertaining."

"We live in such an exciting time. Technology is evolving so quickly, sometimes it feels like we're actually living in the future," Keoghan said in an email statement. "The way we source our news, entertainment, interests … and the personalities we meet online, just would not have been possible a few years ago. We've decided to give a group of the world's biggest social media stars a chance to share the world with audiences like never before."

The announcement marks yet another example of traditional networks tapping into the digital landscape to tap into influencers' followings. Earlier this year, E! Network gave YouTube personality Grace Helbig her own talk show. MTV also recently debuted a series starring YouTuber Todrick Hall.
